Dear Editor:
With the coming Board of Education election we have to ask ourselves what qualities we should expect of a candidate who would serve our students and the taxpayers over the next three years. With the Governor’s recent budget cuts and its impact on our schools we should expect that the people we elect should have some business sense to deal with the inevitable downsizing that is to come. We should also expect that the people we elect should have some sense of how a school district functions. Which aspects of the curriculum benefit our students the best and which programs are the most educationally sound are difficult choices that should be made by qualified individuals. The public has to trust that our elected officials are so qualified and will be wise enough to make the tough decisions that are fair to all concerned. For these and many other compelling reasons I am supporting Joseph Lewis for the Secaucus Board of Education. Mr. Lewis holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from Johnson and Wales University, a distinction that will help him to make business decisions on the board.
Joseph Lewis is an educator who has taught business courses in the Union City School District for the past nine years, a distinction that qualifies him to make curriculum decisions. Mr. Lewis is a well respected wrestling coach, a distinction that qualifies him to understand how extra-curricular programs turn our youngsters into well rounded adults who can compete in today’s global marketplace. To me the choice is clear. Vote for Joseph Lewis on April 20.
