Police: Adult allegedly strangled kid

North Bergen Police arrested a 29-year-old male who allegedly tried to strangle a 12-year-old child for looking at him.
According to police, on April 5 at 8:02 p.m., Kevin Ricardo, 29, of North Bergen was outside and felt that a child was looking at him the wrong way.

The man said he didn’t like the way the child was looking at him.

“He [allegedly] said to the kid, ‘I swear to God if you look at me, talk to me…I have problems. Watch what is going to happen,’ ” said police.
Police said that Ricardo allegedly told other people in the vicinity to not ‘say anything to the cops’ before he allegedly attempted to strangle the 12-year-old boy in the street.
With the help of good Samaritans who called police to the scene and a witness who gave a statement, police were able to apprehend Ricardo, who police said is known to the department.
Police said that he was charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Ricardo made bail, which was set at $5,000.

Alleged shoplifting turns into robbery charge

A shoplifting incident at ShopRite Supermarket, located at 3147 Kennedy Blvd., allegedly turned to robbery on April 5, police said.
Erick Rosario of Union City was caught allegedly attempting to exit the store around 6 p.m. with Similac baby formula when a store employee tried to stop him, said police.
Rosario allegedly assaulted the employee and threatened to kill him.
“He [allegedly] grabbed the guy’s shirt collar and tried to pull him down to the floor and then he struck him in the chest,” said police.
He also allegedly told the employee that he was a gang member and that “…when he got out of jail if he sees him on the street, he’ll kill him,” according to police.
Rosario was charged with robbery and terroristic threats.

Allegedly caught stealing with steak knife

Gerald Selima of Cliffside Park was attempting to leave Target, located at 7101 Tonnelle Ave., but store surveillance cameras had already captured him allegedly attempting to steal a Boost Mobile and AT&T cell phone, police said.
When store security detained him at the exit, they also found a steak knife that was allegedly on his person, according to police.
Police do not know if the knife was taken from the store.
He was charged with shoplifting and also had two failures to appear in court warrants from Bergen County and Cliffside Park, police said.

Alleged burglary stopped

A North Bergen resident observed two individuals allegedly climbing through the window of an abandoned house and called police.
On April 1 around 8:25 a.m., police arrived at the house and witnessed two individuals inside allegedly attempting to take the copper pipes and wire.
Eddy Navarro, 43, and Flavio Ordonez, 25, of Union City were charged with burglary, criminal attempt of theft and resisting arrest.
