NORTH BERGEN BRIEFS

Guttenberg election unopposed

Four candidates will run in an unopposed Guttenberg Board of Education election on April 20.
President Sari Zuckerman, Elsa Schwarz and Margarita Batista are incumbents running for three-year terms. Elaine Silverstone is a newcomer running for a two-year unexpired term.
Voters will also be asked to approve the district’s 2010-2011 $13.9 million 2010-2011 fiscal year budget, which the board passed on March 31.
The budget’s tax levy increased by 7.5 percent to $9.4 million due to state budget cuts, said officials.
The district also plans to implement around 22 layoffs and end its athletic program. See story, inside.
