Dear Editor:
A new and unnecessary feature has found its way into the political landscape of the upcoming school board election. How in the world did partisan politics enter into this equation? Whose bright idea was it to use the school board as a springboard for partisan oriented elections in Hoboken? You don’t have to be a parent to know that partisan politics has no place in any discussion surrounding the education of our future leaders.
Yet, this is exactly what is being promoted by the Hoboken Republicans and their slate of candidates: Real Results. I personally like the fact that all of Hoboken’s elections are non-partisan; this way every vote cast can be based simply on which candidate(s) we believe will best serve the needs of our community and, in the case of the BOE, the school children without concern for party affiliation. If our true goal as an electorate in the upcoming BOE vote is to elect the candidates that will best serve the needs of the children, at a price we can afford, how can we view party building and partisan rhetoric as anything other than an inappropriate distraction?
