Carol Lester will cut school waste from the top down

Dear Editor:
My name is Carol Lester and I am running for the Jersey City Board of Education because I want to bring educational solutions and necessary reform to our local public district schools while cutting non-essential non-classroom spending.
Your vote on April 20, 2-9 p.m., can make a big difference.
Working with dedicated Jersey City families, I co-founded the Learning Community Charter School (LCCS), recognized as one of the best public charter schools in New Jersey and then led it, serving as board president for six years. LCCS has become a model public and teacher-unionized school started by parents and educational professionals committed to best practices from around the world.
I believe that we can achieve this success, school by school in Jersey City.
I will work to empower excellent teachers, specialists and principals to implement their ideas for success and best practices using “Site Based Decision Making.” I will work to cut waste from the top down, not cutting from the the classroom or from after school programs. I will work to eliminate positions and funding for projects which are not essential to student learning, school success and fiscal stewardship. I will facilitate partnerships with colleges and universities for science, technology and math (STEM).
We must provide better educational services while bringing down the cost per student. I know it can be done because; we did it at the Learning Community Charter School (LCCS).
