JERSEY CITY AND BEYOND — After a little black dog was snatched in front of its owner in Jersey City early Easter morning, she pleaded in the media for the return of her beloved “Blackjack.” And on Thursday morning, Blackjack was back!
Lisa Fadden had gone into a 7-11 in Journal Square at 3 a.m. Sunday to pick up a few groceries, and left her black Scottie tied up. While she was watching, a man untied the dog and put it into his car. She gave chase, but he sped away.
Fadden gave police the license plate number of the car, but waited days for information. In the meantime, neighbors posted information on various websites, and local newspapers picked up the cry.
Wednesday night, a young man called Fadden and said he had bought the dog for $100 in Journal Square. He said he had read the newspaper coverage and “felt really bad.” He told her would return the dog to her after he left work.
The man met Fadden Thursday morning and gave her the dog.
“He gave me the dog and I gave him the $500,” Fadden said. “He told me that a guy was selling the dog in Journal Square, yelling, ‘Dog for sale.’ When I got him back, he had his veterinarian tags and my tags. Whoever took him never took the tags off!”
She said many people called her with information. She said one woman even saw the car in Jersey City, with the same license plate number.
She said that as of Thursday, she had still never gotten a call from the Police Department to let her know what was going on.
She said she hopes the police pursue the dognapper, noting that he is likely a “menace to society.”
She especially thanked the Hilltop Neighborhood Associaton for spreading the word.

Kudos to the neighborhood gal who got a critical piece of info that revealed that the pooch was originally taken to one of the most crummy & gang-infested areas in JC; thanks to the chap who upon reading JJ piece, picked up the phone & did the right thing; & in a funny kind of way, good for the creep–who after seeing the 5PM Ch7 piece & realizing that folks were looking for this canine–decided in typical self-preserving cowardly fashion, to unload the doggie…cheap! …Thanks to those of you who e-mailed me on/off this listserv, on FACEBOOK, on twitter, by phone, via fax, & in response to the hudsonreporter.com piece & thank you Melissa Hayes, Caren Matzner, & the Eyewitness News team.
