Board of Ed should reopen contracts

To the Editor:
According to NJN News, teachers in the West Essex School District have agreed to a pay freeze for next year. Even the district’s superintendent has agreed to a pay salary freeze. He will have to scrape by on his $250,000 plus annual compensation package. This agreement was put in place to save teacher’s jobs.
Approximately 150 New Jersey school districts are considering reopening contracts in order to seek concessions from employees. Hopefully, the Bayonne Board of Education will be among them. Discussions could take place with the Bayonne Teachers Association when teachers return from their spring vacation and before they embark on their two-month summer vacation.
