Manzo, et. al. could have said ‘No’

Dear Editor:
The recent press conference initiated by a well known Jersey City, Hudson County politician is really quite amusing. This individual stated that he and the other (43) allegedly accused, consisting of office holders, candidates, civic and religious leaders, and high government workers, were targeted by Federal prosecutors, for the main purpose of electing Chris Christie Governor of New Jersey.
These allegations against the government might have held some water if the President, the Congress in power and the Attorney General of the United States, who is in charge of these federal prosecutors, weren’t all members of the same Democratic Party. Why would they have any justification or loyalty to elect, help or approve the successful election bid of Chris Christie, a Republican, as governor in a key Blue State as New Jersey?
Jon Corzine, even though he first endorsed Hillary Clinton during the primary, later offered all his resources and went full throttle for President Obama during the general election. In fact President Obama came to New Jersey on numerous occasions, bringing in the Cavalry, to help Corzine get re-elected. It doesn’t make any sense, and against all logical comprehension that an elaborate well thought out plan as this, or political coup of this caliber and magnitude, to materialize in favor of the opposition.
Isn’t it ironic that in the year 2010 of the 21st Century more and more individuals are not taking any responsibility for their actions? Naturally, all of those who were allegedly charged in this Federal corruption sting operation are assumed innocent, because in this Country a person is innocent until proven guilty, but where and when does the accountability start and end if they are found guilty in a court of law, by a judge or by a jury of their peers. So far, we heard very little answerability from them, while some elected officials involved still remain in office, with no action taken.
Basically, it’s an intelligent defensive maneuver, reversing the blame on your accusers, by hopefully forcing them to use some of their time, ways, means and resources in defending their own procedures, policies, and investigations used, were proper and legal in legitimately processing and issuing all these indictments. This strategy is not a fool proof plan; it obviously has some glitches and ramifications of backfiring into a more serious elaborate nightmare of legal negativity.
Some have already taken their medicine and accepted their responsibility by pleading guilty and throwing themselves on the mercy of the court. One had a trial and found guilty, by a jury, on two counts of corruption.
Has all decency and self respect completely vanished from our society? Should there always be an excuse made for any and all established criminal laws violated that lead to an alleged arrest, indictment and conviction. Such as, it’s the other guys fault? The government never gave us a warning? We were set up? Society did it? It’s definitely entrapment? All these clever ploys, when a simple “No” would have sufficed.
