Healy may give a State of the City address

JERSEY CITY — Mayor Jerramiah Healy will be doing his State of the City address in the near future, according to city spokesperson Jennifer Morrill. However, no date has been set.
If he does an address, it would be two months later than last year’s. The State of the City address allows the mayor to speak to a usually partisan crowd and outline the accomplishments of his administration and what he plans to do in the current year.
Morrill said a reason that Healy hasn’t done an address sooner was because he was waiting for Gov. Chris Christie to announce the state budget so Healy could find out what state aid the city is getting and the impact that would have on city operations.
But politicial observers, both inside and outside of City Hall, say Healy has held off because of the various problems plaguing City Hall, such as the city’s budget being months late, the layoffs of city employees, and the corruption arrests from last July 23 that netted close allies.
Should Healy give or not give a State of the City address this year and why? Weigh in with your comments. — RK
