Dear Editor:
The recent attempted hiring of a Superintendant for the Hoboken School District was a disaster and an embarrassment. There was some vague suggestion in last week’s Hoboken Reporter that Dr. Frank Romano “dropped out” of the selection process because of public comments that were critical of him and the manner in which he was selected. I believe this was the VERY REASON Dr. Romano dropped out.
He was put in an untenable position by Maureen Sullivan’s very public hissy fit. No Super worth hiring is going to work for a split Board. The vote to appoint must be unanimous. I would suggest that before the selection process is resumed, the Board members receive some training about selecting and appointing a Superintendent. Ms. Sullivan and the Board of Ed. members should also know that the talent pool for Superintendents is fast dwindling due to the blatant politicization of school boards and the very inflated expectations of some of their members.
