Local Girl Earns Girl Scout Bronze Award – Kaylee Cox, a Junior Girl Scout with Troop 2700 was recently awarded her Bronze Award.

In order to earn the Bronze Award, Kaylee had to complete several steps: she needed to earn the Junior Aide award, which consisted of helping with the younger Girl Scouts, the Brownies. She also had to earn another award called a Sign. Kaylee earned both the Sign of the Star and the Sign of the Rainbow. Each Sign consisted of several steps and required the completion of several badges.
Kaylee needed to also complete at least 15 service hours to earn her award. Kaylee completed her service hours by working with the Hudson County Animal League. She participated, along with another troop, in acting as a “runner” for one of the HCAL’s Tricky Tray’s. Both Kaylee and the other troop also made and donated over 120 dog tug of war toys and catnip mice to be used by the HCAL when an animal is adopted.
Kaylee also clipped coupons for the HCAL’s coupon drive and collected cat food from all of Bayonne’s Girl Scout troops for the Leagues “Seniors Adopting Seniors” program. Kaylee came up with the idea of working with an animal rescue group as her service project as a way to honor the memory of the family’s cat Periwinkle who passed away last year. Kaylee is a 7th grader as Dr. Walter F. Robinson School who also enjoys music, art and glassblowing. She hopes to become a Pastry Chef. Kaylee would like to thank the Hudson County Animal League for all of their help with earning the award. She would also like to thank her troop leader, Mrs. Barbara Wilson for her guidance and wisdom during the process.
