Dear Editor:
The person in charge of security in Union City Schools is the right person for a difficult job. Paul Hanak who has a law degree, over twenty five years in the police department and also is the former police chief of the Union City police department is extremely experienced, intelligent and is saavy with street problems. Today keeping our schools secured has become a priority throughout the United States especially in urban life. Mayor Brian P. Stack and president of the Union City board of education Ms. Jeannette Pena should be publicly commended for selecting Mr. Hanak as the person in charge of security issues.
Three decades ago, here in Hudson County, public schools had hardly any security. And rightfully so, it was not needed back then. Today violence has increased to an all time high and vandalism has increased significantly. Parents can go to work and need not worry because our schools are well secured. Especially the new beautiful High School – that has over two thousand five hundred students. Under Mr. Hanak’s advise they have three policemen working full time, with the help of ten security guards, to keep everything under control. In addition all Union City Grammar schools have two and three security guards assigned full time. The community should know that these security personnel are constantly attending conferences and are well trained to perform their job.
I’m proud of the Union City school system and our administrators, teachers and staff are second to none.
Respectfully,
Oscar Cordero
