Political service seminar coming March 13

Dear Editor:
On Saturday March 13, the Hoboken Quality of Life Coalition and People for Open Government will be hosting an information session on the upcoming elections for Hoboken Democratic and Republican Party committee seats. The Citizens Campaign of N.J. will present a short Path to Political Party Service seminar, for the attendees interested in running for the political committee seats.
What Does a Committee Person Do?
Every district of every ward in Hoboken elects both a Democratic and Republican committeewoman and committeeman. The party committees exist to represent the interests of local voters to the party, and to raise funds and rally support for party candidates. The responsibility taken on by each committee person depends completely on the level of involvement they choose. Many run for committee to promote change in local government or to help build a political platform. Others see it as an introduction to the political process or a chance to socialize with politically like-minded neighbors.
The June election is a great chance to dip your toe in the political waters. Only a few signatures are needed to get on the ballot and, depending on your district and party affiliation, just a few votes may get you elected. (The petition deadline is April 12).
The forum will take place on Saturday, March 13 at St. Matthews Parish Hall, Seventh and Hudson St. at 10 a.m.
The Citizens Campaign is a non-partisan non-profit group that seeks to inspire greater local political participation and to reverse the tide of government waste and corruption. The Campaign is best known for successfully introducing Pay-to-Play and ethics reform across the state.
The Call to Service forum is free and open to the public. If you need more information please contact John Branciforte at johnbranciforte@aol.com, or Lauren Skowronski at (732) 548-9798 x2. You can also visit www.JoinTheCampaign.com or QLC Hoboken.org.
