Finally some good news for Hoboken’s 2 wheeler bikes. The NCAA last week donated some 36 bikes to local boys and girls.
A good start was to register these bikes under the watchful eyes of police officers James & Cahill.
As we all know a bike must observe the same rules and regulations of a motor vehicle.
You don’t ride on a sidewalk. As a motor vehicle you must be registered. You must have front head lights, have horn or bell and a tail reflector. Inspection of brakes will be done at random stops –
This is a good start these bikes now have VIN numbers like a car license. Now for all the other thousand of unregistered bikes –
Notices should be posted as to where you can take your bike for registration and inspection and like a motor vehicle registration a modest fee should be charged to formulate this program.
Initial rules to start
No bikes on sidewalks – you must stop at stop signs & red lights.
In place of car safety belt – bikers must wear helmets.
You cannot drive up or down a one way street.
Grant permission to crossing guards and parking utility personnel to stop a biker when they see them violating a rule.
All Hoboken bikers should be registered therefore as when a police officer pulls over a car and asks for ID and registration you could be fined for violation of the law the revenue from this program will benefit Hoboken’s budget.
