HOBOKEN — The biggest book store in the mile-square city is closing its doors on March 31, according to a sign in the store.
Barnes & Noble, 59 Washington St., will leave Hoboken’s bibliophiles with only one book store, Symposium Bookstore, a used bookstore on the 500 block of Washington Street.
The impending loss has left several local readers and writers complaining. While the store was too small to hold readings, it did hold storytimes for children and other small events.
The book store chain recently announced some nationwide layoffs, and follows a trend of more people reading books on electronic reading devices rather than on paper. – TJC
