STATEWIDE — New Jersey’s new governor, Republican Christopher Christie, took office in Trenton today and pledged to cut spending on the state and local levels.
“We will curb municipal spending where there has been too little control, and yes, we will have to restrain state government,” he was quoted as saying in published reports.
Last week, two local cities — Jersey City and Union City — got extra aid for their budgets, but may see it taken away if Christie decides to get tough.
