A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, 11 a.m. at Christ Church, 90 Kings Highway Middletown, NJ, for Marjorie Jane Laue, 54, a long time resident of Hoboken. She passed away peacefully Jan. 3 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Jersey City with her family at her side. During her final days, she was surrounded by many dear friends. For the past thirty-three years Marje, a “Women of Hoboken Calendar Girl” enthusiastically served the community that she loved. She founded and organized the Jackson St. Community Garden and was an active volunteer for the Hoboken Historical Museum. She served as a volunteer at the Hoboken Shelter Soup Kitchen, St. Mary’s Thrift Shop and the Hoboken Craft Fair. She was member of the Hoboken YMCA, where she swam for many years. Over the years, Marje attended workshops at the Peters Valley Craft Center in Layton, NJ. She was a gifted knitter, weaver, and needle worker, known locally for her artistically knitted and felted winter hats. She was also an avid reader and her passionate book critiques were well-respected. She bicycled throughout the U.S., and enjoyed hiking and swimming, especially with family and friends on vacations in Bleeker , NY. She loved animals and many will remember her afghan hounds, Manfred and Tika as well as her rescued cats. Marje was born in West Orange, lived in Metuchen and Holmdel, and graduated from Red Bank High School. She attended Rutgers, Katharine Gibbs, and NYU. She worked as an accountant and administrator for many firms, and provided freelance bookkeeping services to a variety of non-profit organizations. She is survived by her parents Jane Marilyn and Richard Laue of Red Bank; her brothers, Richard, Stephen and Bob; sister-in -law Patricia; sister Jennifer and brother-in -law Chris McBeth, and her niece Meghan Jane McBeth. Also surviving are her aunts, Gabrielle Stover, Janet Muck and her husband, Darrel and uncle Charles Laue and his wife, Lillian, and many dear and caring friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at Compassionate Care, Jersey City, for the wonderful care given to Marje. An informal gathering will be held at the church at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 330 Ninth St., Jersey City 07302, or a local charity of your choice. Cremation was private by Cremation Company, Jersey City.
