HOBOKEN — The City Council will meet Wednesday night and taxpayers will have their first chance to speak out on the $98.7 million 2009-2010 city budget. Mayor Dawn Zimmer and Fiscal Monitor Judy Tripodi presented the budget to the council in December, accompanied by an extensive presentation by Finance Director Nick Trasente.
The council’s Finance Committee is preparing a one-and-done amendment to the budget that will most likely be ready by the end of the month, according to committee Chairman Michael Lenz.
Tomorrow night the council will hold a public hearing on what has been presented by the administration, he said.
“This is an opportunity for people to speak in general terms [on the budget],” he said today.
Lenz is trying to schedule a “committee of the whole” public meeting on Saturday, Jan. 30, hopefully with city directors in attendance.
The specifics of the council amendment, he said, may be available to the public at that time or earlier.
Once the council introduces their amendment amendment, Lenz said there will be another public hearing before the council adopts the budget adopted. The state will then review the budget.
