A funeral service took place Dec. 10 at Monumental Baptist Church, Jersey City, for Sammie Bryant. He passed away Dec. 3 after a long battle with cancer. He was born to the late Dolphus and Emily McCord in Jersey City. Sammie was educated in the Jersey City school system. He was employed by Jeffco Trucking Company for many years. He was a member of the Masons Sons of Light Lodge No. 138. Sammie was a father and grandfather. He always enjoyed family events and never missed a family reunion. Surviving to cherish Sammie’s memory are his companion Valerie Trent; four sons, Shyrelle Herring, Jermill and Jarell Stevens and Sammie Bryant, Jr.; one daughter, Nicole Stevens; seven grandchildren; four sisters, Christine Evans, Geneva Bentley-Lewis, Ella Bentley and Dolores McCord; four brothers, Thomas C. and Eugene Bentley, Franklin and Michael McCord; and a host of other relatives and friends.
