‘The law is the law’

To the Editor:
Last week’s front page “Hatch Act” coverage with its snide sub-title “Losers in Bayonne election file complaint against winner” was unfair.
Also, the photos depicting John Cupo and Leonard Kantor as the losers are mean-spirited as these two gentlemen had the courage to run against a hand-picked candidate supported by the Democratic Party machine. They are not losers. They were just out-numbered and out-spent, as with Leonard Kantor spending only $285 with a cost of a mere 7¢ per vote. He came in a close second.
And how could anyone infer that this Democratic Party controlled candidate was running independent of his party? Many voters suggested to me that I was wasting my time supporting Mr. Kantor when “you can’t fight the machine,” specifically those who give out jobs, perks and favors.
In addition, the condescending remark by Chief of Staff Steve Gallo that upon further scrutiny, “reasonable” people will arrive at the same conclusion is the epitome of arrogance. It is not unreasonable or irrational for any candidate to fight for the right to have a fair and just election process.
