Police arrest Jersey City official in Internet sex-chat bust

JERSEY CITY — According to the Star-Ledger, Jersey City assistant municipal comptroller Joseph Ambrosio was arrested Friday morning at his home in Wall, N.J. on charges of allegedly engaging in sexually explicit chats with a police officer posing as a 13-year-old.
Ambrosio, 41, was arrested at his Wall home shortly after 7 a.m. Friday as the result of a sting by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and Sheriff’s Office and the Morris County Prosecutor, assisted by the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office, Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Bayonne Police Department and the Jersey City Police Department.
Ambrosio was charged with one count of attempted sexual assault, six counts of attempted endangering the welfare of a child, and one count of attempted criminal sexual contact, according to the story.
Jersey City spokesperson Jennifer Morrill said Ambrosio was immediately suspended without pay from his position pending further legal action. Morrill said Ambrosio was hired in 1997 and was earning a salary of $72,872. – RK
