To the Editor:
Recently, my son, Matthew Christopher Grapstul, had obtained the rank of Eagle Scout with assumption Boy Scout Troop 27. The article that Al Sullivan wrote was so nicely done and was greatly appreciated. It not only explained that my son was honored to become an Eagle Scout, but it also went into how the rank is obtained, and how much work and time was spent trying to complete this endeavor.
I was very proud after reading the article and I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to interview him, and also to support his efforts. I would think that this story would inspire other scouts to dream big, and never give up. You can accomplish a lot when you have the help of so many people who care, whether it is in your home, your scout unit, or your community. People come together, all you have to do is ask.
This letter is being written to acknowledge all those that did not think twice when asked to lend a hand so that Matthew could complete his task of becoming an Eagle Scout. Special thanks go out to the following: The Boy Scouts of Troop 27 Assumption; the parents of these boys who helped lend a hand when needed; the special thank you to scout leaders Mr. Lawrence DeLong, Mr. Michael Macalush (deceased) and Mrs. Macalush; the scout leaders from other troops Mr. Quigley, Mr. Hughes and all the Merit Badge leaders; the City of Bayonne and their affiliates; Muralo Paint of Bayonne; Bayonne Plumbing; Home Depot; Val Construction; the Community News’ writer Al Sullivan; The Jersey Journal/Bayonne Weekly’s writer Jamie Schuh; and, finally, my family and friends.
All these people were instrumental in the completion of my Eagle Scout project, and I will always remember the help and support it took.
