A funeral mass was celebrated Nov. 2 at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Worcester, N.Y., for Charlotte D. Schutte, 92. She passed away Oct. 26 after a short illness. Charlotte was born in St. Gallen, Switzerland and emigrated to West New York when she was three years old, eventually settling in Jersey City with her husband Herman, to whom she was married for 62 years. She is survived by her three children, Charlene, Mark and Alan; eight grandchildren, Lori, Jeanine, Frank, Vincent, Renee, Eric, Kyle, and Mary; nine greatgrandchildren, Codey, Emily, Abigail, Jameson, Samantha, Harleigh, Mia, Giovanni, and Julien; and a huge, loving family inspired for years by her graciousness, sunny outlook and wonderfully, uniquely, Swiss sense of humor. For years, her family happily wore the crazy knitted slippers with bells she was always giving out at Christmastime. She hid candied eggs for her grandchildren year after year in her yard at Easter no matter how many times her own kids locked her out of the house while she was hiding the eggs. She continued to receive free refills in her thermos at the local Norfolk,Va. Pizza Hut,12 years after the promotion ended. She still beat her kids and grandkids regularly playing Jass and Cribbage into her 90s. She wrote letters to her friends long after her arthritis made it nearly impossible to hold a pen. She could make a vase of fresh flowers last longer than anyone. She was special, and will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. Services arranged by the Migliaccio Funeral Home, Bayonne.
