Zimmer is officially sworn in as Hoboken’s new mayor

HOBOKEN — After winning the Hoboken special mayoral election on Tuesday, Dawn Zimmer was sworn in Friday afternoon as the new Hoboken mayor. She also officially resigned her 4th Ward council seat.
As of this afternoon, City Hall had not yet released word on when her pubilc inauguration ceremony will be held, but they said it will likely be next weekend. Watch this space for further details.
Meanwhile, there may be some jostling over who will fill Zimmer’s old seat on the council. Former officials who are sometimes controversial, like Michael Lenz and Tony Soares, have been mentioned as possible contenders.
In an article in this coming Sunday’s paper, Soares says that the choice is the City Council’s decision.
“It all depends,” he said. “It’s up to the council.”
He said he is interested in the position, even though he would be forced to resign his newly-appointed seat on the Zoning Board.
“I’ve spent 19 years in the 4th Ward,” he said. “I’m not looking to disrupt the current situation [on the council], but they could be aided.”
Lenz also responded. He said, “The 4th Ward is my home. If I was picked to represent it, I’d be honored to accept.”
