Dawn Zimmer stood up for Hoboken’s children

Dear Editor:
I am writing to add my support for Dawn Zimmer!
Dawn has shown herself to be a true leader, unafraid to make tough decisions and stand up for what’s right…. regardless of the politics surrounding an issue. True leadership is doing what is right for the community, even at your own political peril. True leadership is not sticking your finger in the air to see which way the political winds are blowing.
Dawn showed this strength and determination during the last Board of Education election by supporting better schools and equal opportunities for all Hoboken children. The only Mayoral candidate willing to take a stand.
Of her on volition, Dawn assessed all information and the records of all those involved and made her decision. Dawn chose to support the Kids First ticket, because she knew that in order for Hoboken children to receive the education they all deserve, a change had to be made.
Below is the platform only she had the leadership to support:
• Require that all programs boost test scores, raise standards and maximize student achievement.
• Demand that the schools spend taxpayer money as carefully as we spend our own.
• Eliminate bureaucratic waste. Give the classrooms what they need.
• Attract and retain students by reaching out—and responding to community needs.
• Hold people accountable from the top down.
Dawn continues to take the lead in her current position as Acting Mayor. She has proven herself to be honest, strong, respectful and determined to move Hoboken forward….. for everyone. The City has already improved in these few short months. This Tuesday let’s give her a full term.
