Weehawken Democrats endorse Gov. Corzine

Dear Editor:
Governor Jon Corzine has been a tremendous help to the Township of Weehawken. We have always encouraged our voters to support those candidates who help our township. Putting all the campaign rhetoric aside Governor Corzine has put in place policies and programs which have directly assisted Weehawken in stabilizing our property taxes.
This has been accomplished by the Corzine administration providing our township with over 4 million in extra state dollars to assist in our tax stabilization efforts. In addition, we have received over $5 million in extra state aid to provide for new parks, addition open space, and to resurface our roads. Finally, the Governor has continued our REAP Tax Credit, provided addition relief for our senior citizens through the Property Tax Reimbursement Program, increased funding the NJ Tuition Aid Grants to help the children of our community pursue higher education, and in what will be a tremendous assistance the Governor has changed the state school funding formula to insure that communities like Weehawken will receive additional state aid.
During these difficult economic times it is never easy to balance the state budget and provide additional funding to municipalities, but the Corzine administration has worked diligently to accomplish both. Other candidates are promising cuts in the state income tax and sales tax. This cannot be accomplished without the loss of most, if not all, of our state aid.
On Tuesday November 3, we ask that you join us in supporting Governor Jon Corzine and Lieutenant Governor candidate Loretta Weinberg (1A), Assemblyman Ruben Ramos (3A), Assemblywoman Caridad Rodriguez (4A) and County Surrogate Donald De Leo (5A). This team has produced real results for Weehawken residents and will continue to fight for the issues that matter most to our town and families.
Please keep in mind that polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. We look forward to seeing you on Election Day!

Very Truly Yours,
Mayor Richard F. Turner
