SECAUCUS AND HOBOKEN – We got a looooot of letters for our Secaucus and Hoboken papers this weekend. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that this is the last weekend, according to our long-standing election letters policy, that letters criticizing a candidate or slate can run.
This policy was instituted because we are a weekly newspaper, and any letters the final weekend before the election (in this case, Sunday, Nov. 1), will come too close to the election for people to respond to them in time. In order to be fair, we let people submit critical letters up through the current weekend, Oct. 25. That still gives readers a week to respond or point out any mistakes.
So take a look this weekend and see what your neighbors are saying, both positive and negative. If you would like to send a letter for next weekend’s edition, make sure it is a general letter or an endorsement that doesn’t attack any specific candidate.
Note that this same policy applies for the gubernatorial and legislative elections.
The best way to send letters is as a WORD attachment, under 500 words, with your phone number and address on the attached version. Send it to: Editorial@hudsonreporter.com. Put something like “letter to the editor” in the subhead.
The letters are also published under “opinion” on top of our homepage, www.hudsonreporter.com.
