Action!

The long-awaited five-screen movie theater in uptown Hoboken has finally arrived. The new Clearview Cinemas is located on 14th Street between Adams and Grand streets, under the 14th Street Viaduct bridge.
The grand opening celebration kicks off with the “Friday Night Red Carpet Golden Ticket Event,” Friday, Oct. 23 from 5 to 9 p.m.
The “Red Carpet” portion of the event leads to an Oktoberfest Beer Garden with games and music for visitors 21 years of age or older.
The “Golden Ticket” portion includes a prize for the winner of a Hollywood-themed costume contest. Those attending the event are invited to dress as their favorite movie character to earn a chance to win one year free admission for themselves and a guest.

Movies showing for the opening weekend are “Couples Retreat,” “Astro Boy,” “Amelia,” “A Serious Man,” and “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas in Disney Digital 3-D.”
Admission is free, and all other proceeds will be donated to Hoboken’s Police Athletic League. In addition, Clearview will make contributions to two other important Hoboken youth-focused organizations, the Boys and Girls Club of Hoboken and The Jubilee Center.

Family fun day

On Saturday, Oct. 24, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Clearview Cinemas and the city of Hoboken will host an “Ultrasonic Super Fantastic Family Day.” This all-day festival includes entertainment, crafts, and games for the whole family. Children’s activities will include movie bingo, a petting zoo, pony rides, and more.
Clearview is providing a free shuttle bus service for the family day festival through downtown Hoboken, with stops at the Ninth Street Light Rail station, at municipal garages, the Hoboken Terminal, and the ‘Park on Park’ garage at 15th Street. The theater

The 20,000-square-foot theater is a “two-level, ultramodern movie destination with state-of-the-art technology to showcase the many 3D Hollywood films,” according to Clearview. Three of the five auditoriums will have stadium seating and high-quality digital projection, and each auditorium will have the latest digital sound technology.
Also, the theatre will feature many additional conveniences for its patrons, such as leather rocker seats, automated ticketing machines, two concession stands, and a private event room.
General admission is $11, senior admission is $9, and children’s admission is $8. Matinee specials are $9.50 before 4 p.m. from Monday to Friday and before 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.
For any 3D Experience show, $3 is added per ticket.
All the auditoriums are handicapped accessible.
The theater has no dedicated parking area, so the city is recommending residents use public transportation, or some other mode of transportation. If driving is necessary, they are recommending use of uptown parking garages east of Willow Avenue.
