Dear Editor:
I write this letter as committeeman for Ward A District 21 and as a Black American in Hudson County.
I hear a lot of talk about the upcoming election for Governor of the State of New Jersey. Many people say they are angry about Jon Corzine’s honesty about cutting the budget. He was honest about the financial state of New Jersey before the news we now know of the state of finances became Headline news. He even shut down the legislature in an attempt to make them deal with the extremely unpopular issues we now recognize as reckless, dangerous spending. Now you have people who want to punish him for cutting their rebate.
Let’s look at the Republican politics’ alternative. Some people believe that Chris Christie’s term as N.J. State Attorney focused on prosecution of Democrats & minorities. The current prosecutions in Hudson County are said by some to be the use of that office to foster Christies chance to be Governor. There has been evidence that He is guilty of these practices himself (his failure to report his personal loan to the State & I.R.S.).
I clearly am only repeating what I have read and may not know all the facts but I do know that Christie was favored by the Bush Whitehouse and rumor has it that major non bid contracts went to very rich friends from public sources (and to his relatives). We are hearing horror stories about denying mammogram’s & allow insurance companies & big business to deny us coverage in the name of profit. We hear there will be rejection of economic stimulus funds which President Obama has determined will put people to work, save the banking, construction & auto industries and keep money flowing in America.
Let’s be honest about the difference between Democratic & Republican Politics. Republicans spent Billions on Wars without flinching but reject Universal Health Care. Republican’s break Unions and regard foreclosures as times of prosperity. Democrat’s have had their share of failing minorities in America as well but they have social programs which focus on the least of us.
President Obama needs Jon Corzine if New Jersey is to benefit from his economic plans for the inner cities. Don’t get it twisted. If the Democratic Party, Blacks, Hispanics, & our vast & culturally diverse Hudson County community fail to make this one of the most important elections since the election of President Obama the price you pay will be your fault. Hudson County voting elects the Governor.
