Rides, games, and petting zoos

A mechanical bull for teenagers and a choo-choo train ride for small children were popular attractions at Weehawken’s annual Fun Day, held on the Sunday, Oct. 4 rain date.
Hundreds of residents came to Lincoln Park by the waterfront, which was converted into a carnival-like fair. Booths were aligned near the waterfront. Among them was one that promoted the library, another promoted the Daniel Webster school, and a third to promote the new parking regulations. Also, the Weehawken Booster Club was there selling black and red items commemorating Weehawken.

Daniel Delaney, the lead singer of the Jersey Four, sang oldies tunes. The group’s inspiration comes from musical greats like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Jay Black and the Americans. Interestingly, the dance floor was mostly covered by young children who were moved by the tune of “Cara Mia.”
Toni Fukuda, a long time Weehawken resident, stood by a board that measured a person’s height. The board had a picture of a fall scarecrow that said, “How tall am I on Weehawken Day?”
Toni said some families are making the board an annual tradition. “Every year, they’re going to come to our board and measure how tall they are,” said Fukuda. Children will be able to see how much they grew from one year to the next.
Another of the booths included a Parking Authority booth manned by Councilman Robert Sosa.
Not to be missed were a llama, a baby cow, a few goats, donkeys, ponies, bunnies, and even one lone chicken that drew in the little ones like a magnet. Animal feed inside of small cups was sold for a $1.
“We had a great turnout. We had a lot of families and kids show up,” said Fukuda, summing up a fun day for the township.
