To the Editor:
I received Congressman Albio Sires’ electronic newsletter this past Wednesday (Sept. 23, 2009). In it, there was a link to/and about the swine flu, which listed where one might get vaccinated against the flu.
Here’s a breakdown (from the New Jersey Health and Senior Services Web site) of where one might get the vaccine in Hudson County: one site in Union City, one site in West New York, nine sites in Hoboken. That’s it! None in Bayonne, none in Jersey City, none in North Bergen and none in the other towns making up Hudson County!
We better get our politicians moving. The allotments of swine flue vaccine are scheduled to ship in mid October. There is a possibility of having to get two shots to immunize against this flu. The shots have to be given 21 to 28 days apart. Meaning, if you get a shot when the vaccine is first available, Oct. 20 let’s say, it will be almost mid November before you can get your second dose – very close to the height of the flu season.
Again, we had better get someone moving on this, quick!
