Bathroom line leads to brawl

A woman ended up with seven staples in her head after a fight broke out near a downtown club. The fight began as an argument in line for the ladies’ room.
At 2:13 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 26, police on patrol by the PATH station came across a woman yelling and running through the street at Hudson Place with blood coming from her nose. She was followed by her boyfriend who had blood on his face and shirt, according to Sgt. Det. Sam Williams.
The boyfriend told police that his girlfriend, the victim, was upstairs at the club in line for the bathroom when she got into an argument with four other women.
He brought his girlfriend downstairs, police said, and they were followed by the other four women.
Another verbal argument led to a physical altercation, he told police, and bouncers tossed all four women and the female victim out of the club.
Police say that the four women then allegedly assaulted the victim, allegedly punching her in the face and hitting her in the back of the head with what police suspect was a high-heel shoe. The four suspects then left the scene before police arrived.
The victim’s sister, who was also at the club, told police she found an identification card belonging to one of the suspected attackers at the scene of the assault.
The sister identified the woman whose picture was on the card as one of the attackers and police said they expect to make an arrest in the case soon.
Police intend to charge the suspects with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon (the shoe).
The victim was transported to Hoboken University Medical Center, treated for a possibly broken nose, and given seven staples to close the cut on the back of her head, police said.

Yearlong probe recovers stolen rings

Police said they were able to track down jewelry stolen on Aug. 5, 2008 after the person who had been charged with the theft was arrested again and gave the police more information.
Det. Michael DePalma said police first arrested Anthony Daniels, 39, Jersey City, on May 13 for his alleged connection to a 2008 burglary that netted a bunch of jewelry from a home on the 1100 block of Garden Street.
Police had dusted the home for fingerprints, found a match, and arrested Daniels for the robbery. During the arrest, police were unable to determine where he sold the stolen goods.
Police arrested Daniels again on Aug. 13 in an unconnected burglary, and DePalma said that he offered up more information this time.
After following a soft lead provided by the accused burglar, police tracked down the Jersey City pawn shop where he said he allegedly sold the goods.
The original victims were brought in to identify their jewelry, including wedding and engagement rings. Police said not all of the stolen items were recovered, but the items that were recovered held sentimental value to the victims and totaled between $8,000 and $10,000.
DePalma said no goods were recovered in the August 2009 burglary arrest, but he said police are still investigating.

What CDs?

Police arrested a man last week accused of burglarizing two separate vehicles same evening, according to Lt. Det. Charles Campbell.
Daniel Rivera, 33, of Hoboken, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 1:50 a.m. and charged with two counts of burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft, criminal mischief, and resisting arrest.
Police received a call about an attempted car break-in at First Street and Willow Avenue. The responding officers observed Rivera leaving the vicinity carrying a CD holder.
Police said they tried to stop him for questioning, but he allegedly threw the CD holder to the ground and allegedly attempted to run from the scene.
A short chase ensued, and once caught, Rivera allegedly tried to push past the officers, police said.
A witness who had initially called police then identified Rivera as the man he had seen allegedly entering a Ford Expedition through an unlocked side door.
After checking the area, police also found another car with a broken window on the rear passenger side.
Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle, who arrived at the scene and noticed a missing CD case.
The car owner then identified to police the same CD case that Rivera was carrying when police found him.
Police also found a brick at the scene of the break-in and glass on Rivera’s clothing, they said.
