Freeholders move to help flooding in Hoboken

Acting Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer pleaded her case before the Hudson County Freeholder Board at its Sept. 10 meeting, saying that their approval of an easement near the waterfront in south Hoboken would begin the process of relieving most of Hoboken’s flooding problems.
The freeholders agreed to allow an easement that would house a $14 million two-story pump station to be installed by the North Hudson Sewerage Authority. Zimmer said the easement allows the process to begin and residents might see relief from flooding in the southwestern portion of the city within a year and a half.
Zimmer is running for re-election this November, and her political critics have, in the past, blasted her for promising to clear up flooding in the 4th Ward without visible progress. This measure will likely give her something with which to combat the criticism.
