9/11 memorial services around the county

Jersey City:Several events are planned in Jersey City.
Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy, the Municipal Council and the Jersey City 9/11 Memorial Committee will observe the eighth annual 9/11 Memorial Service “Reflections,” at 8:20 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009, at the Atrium at Harborside, 154 Plaza III, Harborside Financial Center on the Jersey City Waterfront (enter from Christopher Columbus Drive by Hudson Street). The public is encouraged to attend the patriotic ceremony.
At the 9/11 Memorial Fountain in Journal Square, a ceremony is planned at 5 p.m. to honor the 2009 Circle of Honor Inductees, including late Police Det. Marc Dinardo, Councilwoman Melissa Holloway, McNair Principal Robert Roggenstein, ex-Councilwoman Catherine Macchi, and City Clerk Robert Byrne. A reception begins on a ship at Liberty State Park at 6 p.m. Call (201) 963-6700 for more information.
At Hudson County Community College, a candlelight vigil and a poetry reading will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The college will also celebrate Unity Day, which will include cultural designs and foods, eclectic music, educational and cultural performances, and arts and crafts, from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Both events will take place at 25 Journal Square (Building B), student lounge.
In Jersey City’s Liberty State Park, a proposed statewide memorial sculpture for New Jersey’s approximately 700 victims is only in its beginning stages. An event will begin at 1:30 pm inside the Railroad Terminal adjacent to the memorial site. There will be music, light refreshments and opening remarks. The State of NJ 9/11 Memorial is located next to the CRRNJ Terminal Building in Liberty State Park .
Secaucus: On Sept. 11 at 8:30 a.m., Mayor Richard Steffens and the Town Council will hold a ceremony at the Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. All residents are invited to attend.
Hoboken will observe Sept. 11 in a variety of ways.
The city, the Hoboken City Council, and the Hoboken Clergy Coalition are hosting an Interfaith Memorial Service on Friday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 at Pier A Park. It is open to the public.
A tribute mass will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Grace and St. Joseph, 400 Willow Ave., on Sept. 13 at 10:30 a.m.
The mass is open to all and will honor the Hoboken Police, Fire, and Volunteer Ambulance Corp, and the Port Authority Police. It also will be celebrated in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the tragedy.
North Bergen — a ceremony will be held outside of the 9/11 monument located by North Bergen High School at 9:15 a.m. on Sept. 11. Mayor Nicholas Sacco said that the ceremony will honor three high school graduates who lost their lives. Dignitaries and members of the clergy will attend, as well as the high school band. There will be a moment of silence.
Guttenberg — At 7 p.m., the town will host its ceremony outside of Town Hall, located at 6808 Park Ave.
Weehawken: An ecumenical service will be held Friday, Sept. 11 at Hamilton Plaza near Boulevard East and Hudson Place. The service will begin at 8:30 a.m., nearly coinciding with the moment the first airplane struck the north World Trade Center tower at 8:44 a.m. The service will last approximately 30 minutes. Weehawken lost five residents in the attacks.
