SCARAFILE, FRANK J

A funeral mass was offered on Aug. 29 at Our Lady of Libera Church for Frank J. Scarafile, 81, a former Deputy Chief of the Union City Police Department. He passed away Aug. 26. He was born in Union City to humble beginnings, where he lived most of his life before moving to North Bergen 10 years ago. Frank graduated from Emerson High School in 1946 then went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947 in Japan after World War II. He joined the Union City Police Department in 1952 and served for over 28 years, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief before retiring in 1980. He was the husband of Marie Scarafile and the father of Frank R. Scarafile, James Scarafile, Donna Dugan and Fred Turco. He was the grandfather of eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Fiore and Quido Scarafile, as well as his brother, Daniel and sisters, Palma and Pauline. Services arranged by the Leber Funeral Home, Union City.
