Saying he will try and build on the successes already accomplished, Dr. Mark Spektor took over as medical director of the Bayonne Medical Center Emergency Room on Sept. 1.
Dr. Spektor comes to Bayonne from Maimonides Medical Center, a large tertiary care, teaching hospital in Brooklyn, where he was the medical director of the Department of Emergency Medicine.
In the past, Dr. Spektor has also served as the chief of Emergency Medicine at the VA Medical Center in Brooklyn, a program he started. He maintains his faculty appointment as assistant professor of Emergency Medicine at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He has also written multiple textbook chapters and research publications in peer review journals.
“I am excited to be joining Bayonne Medical Center and look forward to working with our physicians and staff to provide emergency medical care to our community with a focus on excellence, efficiency, and outstanding patient service,” Dr. Spektor said.
During a recent interview, he said his initiatives for the emergency department include providing efficient, excellent medical care to patients, outstanding customer service to patients and family members, employing the latest health information technology, and the opening of the Quick Care Medical Unit.

Sometimes called an Emergency Department, the ER provides treatment to patients suffering every sort of ailment, many of which could be life-threatening and require immediate attention.
This is often the face of the hospital most people see when they are most vulnerable, and that is why management – under the new ownership – decided to make upgrading it a high priority when taking over last year.
“We have made some substantial improvements in operations in clinical services and emergency room management,” said Daniel Kane, president and chief executive officer for BMC, earlier this year.
Bayonne Medical Center’s emergency department has also made other improvements to further enhance its continuing commitment to the community, including the “Door to Doctor in 30 minute, Emergency Room Care” initiative, which was recently instituted. This provides an average wait time of 30 minutes or less to patients arriving at the emergency department. Hospitality associates will greet the patient and family upon arrival at the medical center and will be available to provide ongoing communication and support during the patient’s stay.
“We are excited to have Dr. Spektor at Bayonne Medical Center. He is a recognized leader in emergency medicine and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that will truly benefit the community, our patients and their families,” said Kane.
Dr. Spektor said he was attracted to BMC because of its focus on maintaining a strong emergency room, and a willingness to commit resources to develop an excellent facility.
He said customer service and efficiency are essential to an effective ER, and he sees the commitment by the hospital administration toward these goals.
“The goals haven’t changed,” he said. “I want to get people in, evaluated and treated as quickly as possible, and if they need to be admitted, admit them.”
He said his efforts will be to continue to focus on the specific needs of the community and an overall commitment to excellence.
He called BMC’s ER “the finest in Hudson County.”
