WEEHAWKEN BRIEFS

Residents receive 150th anniversary calendars

With views of Weehawken’s intricately decorated stained glass window panes, the new “Windows of Weehawken,” limited edition 2009-2010 calendar will be sent to residents throughout the week. Nearly 700 calendars will be hand-delivered to homes and buildings in large white envelopes. The price for printing of the calendar was covered by a sponsorship from the New York Waterway and through a contribution from the Weehawken and You Civic Association.
Dates of significant importance in the history of the township have been included in the calendar.

Sires talks about Kennedy passing

Reaction has begun after the recent death of Sen. Ted Kennedy. The senator died on Tuesday, Aug. 25 at the age of 77 while battling brain cancer. “I am saddened to hear about the death of Senator Ted Kennedy. The American people have lost a great leader and the Kennedy family has lost a beloved patriarch,” said Rep. Albio Sires (D-13th Dist.) in a statement released on Aug. 26. “His leadership on civil rights, health care and education were among his top priorities. He was a champion for all people and believed that everyone should have the chance to realize their potential to the fullest. The senator’s fight against discrimination and consideration for the under represented will never be forgotten.”
