Concerned about Cunningham’s comments

Dear Editor:
Councilman Peter Cunningham’s statements to his constituents this past week are both disturbing and troublesome. He said that anyone who decides to run against Dawn Zimmer has little regard for the greater good of Hoboken. As a resident, I take offense to this statement.
Let me remind him that the voters of Hoboken have already rejected Dawn Zimmer once. Perhaps, she should be the one stepping aside and giving someone else a chance for the “greater good” of Hoboken? Peter feels that an election would not move the city forward. Really? Instead, he thinks a better solution would be to have the city council made up of Dawn Zimmer’s closest allies choose the next mayor. Isn’t this the politics of usual from the HCDO that got us into this mess? Peter’s statements share more about him than about this upcoming election. Once a reformer, Peter has become a soldier in the machine politics of Hudson County. He’s chosen to protect his closest allies with little regard for the greater good.
The truth is, this city needs a candidate who will step up and fight for the citizens. This person needs to bring ideas to the table, be a truly independent voice that will challenge the current system and the players who control it. I look forward to supporting this candidate. If your name is NOT Zimmer, Mason, or Russo, please step up to the plate!

Sincerely,
Perry Lin
