CAPORRINO, JOSEPH A

A funeral mass was offered Aug. 20 at St. Ann’s R.C. Church in Hoboken for Joseph A. Caporrino, of Lakewood and Hoboken, formerly of Elberon and Weehawken. He passed away Aug. 15. He was the founder of J. Caporrino Tobacco and Candy in Hoboken, established in 1947. He was also the founder of Caporrino TV and Appliance on Adams Street, Hoboken. Joe was also the Manager of the Teardrops singing group from 1961 to 1963. He shared a great interest in the entertainment world for many years. Joseph was extremely civic minded in both the communities of Hoboken and Weehawken. He was a member of the Hoboken Rotary Club, the Hoboken Kiwanis, and the Business Association of Hoboken. He was appointed to the Board of Adjustment for Weehawken while a resident there for many years. Born in Hoboken, his tobacco and candy business is still legendary. His business savvy afforded him to become a major supplier of candy and cigarettes not only in the city of Hoboken, but also surrounding Hudson County businesses such as grocery stores, gift shops, and various vending suppliers. Mr. Caporrino was a proud member of the Monte San Giacomo Club adjacent to his Adam Street business. Caporrino’s store was the very first to establish the electronic pick-it machine. He was predeceased by a former wife, and a sister, Marie Rasso; a special nephew, Casey Rasso. Surviving is a daughter, Sondra; a son, Douglas, and three grandchildren. He will be sadly missed within the community of Hoboken. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
