A funeral service took place Aug. 11 for Elaine Dowdy. She passed away Aug. 5 at Jersey City Medical Center. She was a teacher with the Jersey City Board of Education. She was the mother of Nija Elaine Stewart; the daughter of the late Verdell and Roosevelt Stewart, Sr.; the sister of James and Sharon Stewart, Sandra Moorman, Lorraine Singletary, Delores Salmond and the late Roosevelt Stewart, Jr.; the grandmother of Nile Herrera; sister-in-law of Robin and Inez Stewart, Richard Singletary and Willie Salmond, and the first cousin of Elsie Johnson. Also survived by a host of other cousins, relatives and friends. Services arranged by the Watson Mortuary Service, Jersey City.
