Soares: Attacks on Zimmer were political

Now that the recent Hoboken City Council meeting has been airing on cable, people have seen some of the public comments at the meeting. Former Councilman Tony Soares, a Zimmer supporter and sometime critic of past administrations, didn’t necessarily like what he heard. It’s just another salvo in the war between Zimmer supporters and Mason supporters. Soares submitted this letter:

Dear Editor,
While watching the City Council meeting of August 5th 2009, I could not believe what I heard from two of the public speakers, Jim Vance and Lane Bajardi (active Mason campaign operatives ) who felt the need to address the microphone to complain about how they don’t like being criticized on the “blogs”.
Both Jim Vance and Lane Bajardi seem to forget that they too are public figures.
Jim Vance is an Elected Democratic Committeeman. Lane Bajardi is/was the appointed (under the Roberts administration) Chair of The Observer Hwy. Redevelopment Committee.
Who could forget his glowing endorsement of Peter Cammarano?
If public ridicule is so tough to take, I suggest they speak to someone who can help them, otherwise don’t waste the public and the council’s time whining because your feelings are hurt.
The people who two weeks ago were rallying behind Cammarano maintaining an iron fist over Zoning appointments have more than a little egg on their faces today.
It might be best to quit the mudslinging towards our Acting and Future Mayor.
You end up looking stupid and it certainly doesn’t help Beth Mason win back her base.
Tony Soares
Past City Councilman 1999-2005
