Dear Editor:
I attended the campaign kick off reception of the Take Back Secaucus Candidates. The candidates had to be pleased with the number that attended. One question that kept going through my mind as I observed some individuals, like myself, that had supported Dennis Elwell in his early political years. Why now were they against him? Was it the disclosure of mayor Elwell’s alleged wrong doing as reported all over the media. I saw through him a long time ago. I had made a mistake. Elwell was not the man I thought he was when I voted for him when he ran in Board of Education and Town Council elections. Once elected mayor he became arrogant, he lost touch with the people who helped him get elected. That is why I ran for mayor, against him in 2000. That was my way of correcting my mistake of supporting him in the first place. Why it took 9 years and the recent disclosure of his alleged wrong doing to catch on to the Elwell style of running and ruining the town I’ll never understand. Well, as the saying goes, better late then never.
Now, to be perfectly honest with your readers. I feel uncomfortable to find myself on the same side of some that are now supporting the Take Back Secaucus Team. I kept asking myself. Do they have ulterior motives? If so, what could they be? Are they true Team Gonnille supporters or false friends jumping on the bandwagon for their private self-centered reasons? It has been said, “there are times you find people on your side, you, wish were on the other side.”
Time will tell the innocents or guilt of Mayor Dennis Elwell. I know one thing he is guilty of that being, “bad judgment” in the selection of people he surrounded himself with once he was elected mayor. Mr. Gonnelli, soon to be Mayor Gonnelli, please do not make the same mistake.
