Dear Editor:
This past Thursday, July 23rd, marks a dark day in the history of Jersey City. I believe your campaign slogan, “Change We Can See” had the best intentions. However, allegations like these do not represent the “change” that the residents of Jersey City were hoping for. Our judicial system allows for all to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. However, the mere ability for allegations like these to be made by the FBI, require more than just allowing justice to take its course. I am sure that I speak for all residents of Jersey City when I say that now more than ever before is the time to create true transparency in all governmental proceedings. Your views on any pay to play initiatives in the past are kept as that: in the past. However, given the current circumstances, I implore you to give your approval of Councilman Steven Fulop’s upcoming initiatives during the council meeting on July 29th, and beyond. Regardless of the defendant’s involved in the FBI’s case, allowing these initiatives to move forward will be the perfect response to what has transpired as well as make a clear statement that behavior like this will not be tolerated in Jersey City.
