Dear Editor:
In regards to the State Treasurers demand to return 40 million dollars from the UEZ account that were inadvertently placed in a wrong account for the past 3 years, that should have been deposited in the State Property Tax Relief Fund, but was deposited in the UEZ account.
Mayor Healy and all 52 urban mayors must fight for this demand! I want to know who is held accountable for this error? After all, if the people made such an error they would pay penalties with interest.
In the 3 years that this was going on, from 2006 the auditor didn’t find miscalculations in the numbers, if the State Treasuty has it’s way Jersey City would have to return 4.6 million!!
Now this 40 million is being used for economic development projects! As I stated these monies were set aside for projects and some were spent.
You never want to stop economic growth which produces jobs, this will put another burden on us tax payers as we just got socked with a 11.25 percent tax increase in Jersey City.
To Mayor Healy and all 52 urban cities pleae have a conscience for the people!! Do the right thing for Jersey City and the State of N.J. Jersey City cannot afford a 4.6 million dollar bill. Fight for accountability!
