That Elwell scandal has sure put Secaucus on the map – in a bad way. That’s according to 1st Ward Town Councilman Gary Jeffas, who appeared on Good Day NY on Channel 5 on Tuesday. Jeffas said Elwell’s arrest, which was repeatedly broadcast on TV news stations across the country, has left a “black mark” on the town’s reputation.
However, perhaps Jeffas and the rest of the council should view this moment as an opportunity. After the scandal broke, the Malibu Diner in Hoboken – one of several Hudson County diners and restaurants that federal agents had under surveillance – reportedly experienced an increase in business. Maybe the scandal can be used to bump up the local tourism dollar.
