Golf tournament supports foundation for the autistic

The Simpson Baber Foundation for the Autistic will partner with The Barclays Golf Tournament through “TICKETS Fore CHARITY,” a fundraising program designed to generate revenue for local charities where PGA Tournaments are held. This year’s Barclays Tournament will be held at the Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City from Thursday, Aug. 27 through Sunday, Aug. 30.
General admission tickets are available for $45. The Barclays is the first of the four tournaments that comprise the Fed Ex Cup – golf’s playoffs. The best of the best of the PGA Tour’s golfers are expected to be at the Barclays, and the current point leaders include both Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson.
By attending at this event, spectators will not only experience the best in professional golf, but positively impact the lives of local children afflicted with autism. To purchase tickets, visit www.thebarclaysgolf.com/tfc. Click on The Simpson-Baber Foundation for the Autistic and type in code SBFA. By following this simple purchasing procedure, 75 percent of the net proceeds will go directly to Simpson Baber and 25 percent will benefit The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, a program which teaches young people life skills through golf.
Autism covers a spectrum of disorders that affects 1 in every 150 children. Autism is a developmental disability that manifests itself in severe communication and social developmental delays. Early intervention is critical, because the window for successful treatment of autism closes very quickly, and many doors to social and recreational opportunities open slowly, if at all.
The Simpson-Baber Foundation for The Autistic exists to educate the public on the spectrum of autism and to provide educational, social and recreational opportunities to children with autism. The Foundation has created a speaker’s bureau and self-help group, organized social events, sports teams and physical activities, purchased and donated educational technology, funded field trips, sponsored research, built a self-contained play-ground, and established the Busy Bee Center for Children with Autism, an award winning, first of its kind early intervention program for children as young as 18 months old.
