I dare you to try to cross Grove St.

Dear Editor:
Mayor Healy, I’m wondering if you’ve ever tried to cross Grove St., right in front of City Hall (yes, as the joke goes…to get to the other side)?! Let me tell you, it’s nearly impossible, with the cross-walks all worn off and drivers having no sense of pedestrian right-of-way (Grove & Wayne, Grove & Mercer and Grove & Montgomery)…cars do not even slow down for pedestrians – are we targets? Are we worth points if we’re hit?…stunning! It seems Grand St. is getting developed left-&-right… their marketing slogans include, ‘easy commute’, ‘use the PATH train’, ‘only minutes from the City’, etc. Yet, to get from the Grove St. PATH to Grand St., it’s you against the car/truck – Not good, especially if we were to ever want to become a family-type community! Grove and Mercer has been the site of two hit-pedestrians that I know of…(one of which was my pregnant neighbor) – What more do we need?! Jersey City could (and should) take a lesson from nearby Hoboken, who has not only clearly marked cross walks around heavy pedestrian areas, but also cones stating “YIELD – Pedestrian Xing”, “Under Penalty of Law” (even way back in their neighborhoods!). Please help make this a better community and work to make this a more pedestrian-friendly city. I dare you to try to cross Grove St. during rush hour a.m. or p.m. – Good luck!!
