According to North Bergen Lt. Frank Cannella, commander of the Detective Bureau, four Mercedes Benz cars, each worth more than $100,000, were stolen over the Fourth of July weekend.
Cannella said that sometime between 11:30 p.m. July 3 and 3:30 a.m. on July 4, four cars were stolen from the Mercedes-Benz Manhattan, Inc. lot, located on 16th street, close to Secaucus Road in North Bergen.
Cannella said that Mercedes-Benz Manhattan is still doing an internal investigation and that the total number of vehicles stolen is not known yet.
“They had to know t he layout of the property,” said Cannella, who explained that they thieves did not set off the motion sensor running along the fence line.
One of the cars already has been abandoned in Passaic, said Cannella.
“It appears that they had some type of internal security issue,” said Cannella.
He said that surveillance video from a nearby factory of the cars leaving the lot was captured and that police are currently working on several leads. – Tricia Tirella
