Last week, the National Transportation Safety Board ruled that the famous airline crash of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 into the Hudson River on Jan. 15 actually occurred in Weehawken territory.
“So we’re the official site of the most miraculous crash in aviation history,” said Weehawken Public Safety Director Jeff Welz.
The flight was en route from LaGuardia Airport in Queens to Charlotte North Carolina when an encounter with Canadian Geese stopped the engines and forced an emergency landing in the Hudson River. All 155 people on board the flight were rescued and had no major injuries.
