KANZLER, DR. WALTER

Funeral services were held June 30 for Dr. Walter Kanzler, 70, a life long resident of Jersey City. He passed away peacefully at his home June 26. He was a professor for 40 years, of which 35 years was teaching at Wagner College, Staten Island, retiring in 2000. He held a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s degree in counseling psychology, a master’s degree in zoology, and a Ph.D. in animal behavior. Dr. Kanzler was highly skilled in his field and was named a NASA fellow, a National Science fund grantee from the University of California at Davis, and a senior research assistant at the National Center for Bioethics at Drew University. Dr. Kanzler had a love for knowledge and a passion for sharing with others. He never considered teaching work and contributed his life experiences to his ability to communicate to his students in and out of the classroom. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and parishioners of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jersey City. He is survived by his loving sister-in-law Gerdi Kanzler, dear cousins Ute and Ingo Hass and relatives in Germany. Services arranged by the Riotto Funeral Home, Jersey City.
